Before you can have a website you need a dot com. These are called Domain names as you own the dot com domain. There are various types
- .com - top level world wide domain name
- .net - 2nd level world wide domain name
- .org - non profit world wide organization
- .biz - one of the new domain names for business
- .name - for personal websites
- .com.au - protected Australian top level domains
- .net.au - protected Australian 2nd level names
- .org.au - for Australian non profit organizations
Australian domain names are protected. Unlike the basic dot com you cannot own an Australian .com.au unless you have a business registered in Australia with the same or similar name, product or service. This protects your business domain name from being bought and sold back to you at high prices. You also own the registration and cannot have it stolen from you as can happen with an American dot com.
Merlin Digital Art provides a service for managing your Domain names and making sure you are not exploited or over charged. A single fee of $75 a year (GST inclusive) is all we charge for all domain name registrations. Australian domains must be purchased in 2-year lots so they are $150 which is still only $75 a year.
We protect you from bogus scams asking you to pay fake registrations and we make sure you don’t forget to re-register, as this can place your website offline and make your email inoperable. Sure, you can buy names at lower prices (but usually only for the first year) although you won’t get the same service and price protection that Merlin Digital Art offers.
